Road Trip (Summer 2008)

In May of 2008, after getting a letter of acceptance from the BA/BFA program at the New School, I set out in my parent's sky-blue Dodge Caravan on a trip through SW Germany, spending nights in the back of the van in a sleeping bag, heeding the map only when absolutely necessary. My intent was to just kind of drift from place to place, following wherever the road and my camera took me. Every week or so I would drive back home to Heidelberg to recharge, or if I was closer to Switzerland or Bavaria, I would make a pit-stop in Stuttgart. As the Summer went on, this driving around bled over into June and July as I spent time with friends, themselves college-bound, and said goodbye to my home. The pictures here were shot on my Nikon FM2 using mostly Kodacolor Gold 200, which was cheaply available on base, though I did shoot some Kodak BW400CN as well. I tried to be very deliberate in the pictures I took, in part to conserve film but also to have a greater focus on composition. I'll keep uploading more shots here over time.
